Meaning:

Yul-Gok is the pseudonym of a great philosopher and scholar Yi I (1536-1584) nicknamed the “Confucius of Korea”. The 38 movements of this pattern refer to his birthplace on 38th latitude and the diagram represents “scholar”.

Description:

Start in parallel ready stance

  1. Move left foot towards B forming a middle stance towards D while slow left hand pressing middle punch
  2. Maintain middle stance and right hand middle punch
  3. Maintain middle stance and left hand middle punch Perform 2 and 3 in a fast motion
  4. Bring left foot to the right foot and then move the right foot towards A forming a middle stance while slow pressing right hand middle punch
  5. Maintain middle stance and left hand middle punch
  6. Maintain middle stance and right hand middle punch Perform 5 and 6 in a fast motion
  7. Turn 45 degrees clockwise towards AD into a right front stance and right arm middle block
  8. Left foot front kick while keeping hands the same as they were in previous step.
  9. Lower the left foot towards AD into a left front stance and left hand middle punch
  10. Without stepping right hand middle punch Perform 9 and 10 in a fast motion
  11. Turn 90 degrees counter-clockwise towards BD into a left front stance moving the left foot and left arm middle block
  12. Right foot front kick keeping hands the same as they were in previous step
  13. Lower the right foot towards BD into a right front stance and right hand middle punch
  14. Without stepping left hand middle punch Perform 13 and 14 in a fast motion
  15. Turn 45 degrees clockwise towards D into a right front stance and slow pressing right palm hooking block
  16. Without stepping slow left palm hooking block
  17. Without stepping right hand middle punch
  18. Step forward into a left front stance and slow left palm hooking block
  19. Without stepping slow right palm hooking block
  20. Without stepping left hand middle punch
  21. Step forward into a right front stance and right hand middle punch
  22. Pivot on right foot into a right bending ready stance towards D
  23. Left foot side kick towards D and left hand punch at same time
  24. Lower left foot towards D into a left front stance and right middle elbow strike into open left palm
  25. Pick up right foot into a left bending ready stance towards C
  26. Right foot side kick and right hand punch at same time towards C
  27. Lower right foot down towards C into a right front stance and left middle elbow strike into open right palm “Kihap”!
  28. Turn 90 degrees counter-clockwise toawrds A sliding left foot into a right back stance and knife-hand square block
  29. Step forward into a right front stance and block down with the left hand and right hand spear hand over the left (your left hand should be under right elbow)
  30. Turn 180 degrees clockwise towards B into a left back stance and knife-hand square block
  31. Step forward into a left front stance and block down with the right hand and left hand spear hand over the right (your right hand should be under left elbow)
  32. Turn 90 degrees counter-clockwise towards C into a left front stance and left arm outer forearm block
  33. Without stepping right hand middle punch
  34. Step forward into a right front stance and right arm outer forearm block
  35. Without stepping left hand middle punch
  36. Jump forward into a left X-stance and left-hand downward back fist “Kihap”!
  37. Unwind 270 degrees clockwise towards A into a right front stance and right-hand reinforced middle block
  38. Bring the right foot to the left foot and then move the left foot towards B into a left front stance left hand reinforced middle block
