Hwa-Rang

Movements: 29

Meaning:The pattern Haw-Rang is named after the Hwa-Rang youth group, which originated in the Silla Dynasty in the early 7th century. The 29 movements refer to the 29th Infantry Division, where Taekwondo developed into maturity.

Description:

Start in ready stance C

  1. Step left foot to the left to form a middle stance facing D while executing a left-hand pushing palm block
  2. Without stepping right hand middle punch
  3. Without stepping left hand middle punch
  4. Pivot into a left back stance towards A and square block
  5. Without stepping upward punch with the left fist while pulling the right fist to the left shoulder
  6. Advance and slide right foot out into a right fixed stance towards A in a sliding motion and right hand middle punch
  7. Pull right foot to left foot into a left vertical stance and downward right knife-hand strike
  8. Step left foot out into a left front stance towards A and left-hand middle punch
  9. Turn 90 degrees counter-clockwise into a left front stance towards D and left arm low block
  10. Step forward into a right front stance towards D and right hand middle punch
  11. Pull the left foot toward the right foot while bringing the left palm to the right forefist, at the same time bending the right elbow about 45 degrees outward
  12. Right foot side kick pulling both hands in the opposite direction and then lower your right foot to forming a left back stance towards D at the same time executing right knife-hand strike
  13. Step forward into a left front stance and left hand middle punch
  14. Step forward into a right front stance and right hand middle punch
  15. Turn 270 degrees counter-clockwise into a right back stance towards A and double knife-hand guarding block
  16. Step forward into a right front stance towards A and block down with the left hand and right hand spear over the left (left hand should be under right elbow)
  17. Move the right foot on line and turn 180 degrees counter-clockwise forming a right back stance towards B while executing a double knife-hand guarding block
  18. Right foot round kick towards B and set it down
  19. Left foot round kick and set it down into right back stance towards B and perform a guarding block
  20. Turn 90 degrees counter-clockwise and step out into a left front stance towards C and left arm low block
  21. Slide left foot in to a right back stance and right hand middle punch to the 45
  22. Step forward into left back stance and left hand middle punch to the 45
  23. Step forward into a right back stance and right-hand middle punch to the 45
  24. Slide left foot out into a left front stance and low X-block
  25. Slide right foot forward in a sliding motion turning 180 degrees forming a right back stance towards D while thrusting double side elbows
  26. Bring the left foot to the right foot, turning counter clockwise to form a closed stance towards B while executing a right arm middle block and left arm low block at same time
  27. Switch arm so left arm will do the middle block and right arm will low block.
  28. Step left foot forward into a right back stance towards B and double knife-hand guarding block
  29. Bring the left foot to the right foot and then move the right foot out to a left back stance towards A and double knife-hand guarding block
